Mutton Curry With Aloo


  1. 1 kg leg mutton or any mutton you prefer

  2. 1/4 cup oil

  3. 1 large onion finely sliced

  4. 2 elachi pods (cracked)

  5. 2 cinnamon sticks

  6. 6 whole peppercorns 

  7. 4 whole cloves

  8. 2 tablespoon red ginger garlic Masala

  9. Salt to taste 

  10. 2 teaspoon coarse red chilies

  11. 2 teaspoon fine dhana(coriander)

  12. 2 teaspoons fine Jeera (cumin)

  13. 3/4 teaspoon haldi(tumeric)

  14. 3 medium tomatoes liquidized 

  15. 4 potatoes cut into 4 pieces.


  1. Heat the oil in a deep pot add the whole spices and onions braise until soft and golden brown.

  2. Add the ginger garlic masala,braise for a few minutes add the washed mutton pieces and one cup water and turn the heat down medium/low and cook until the meat is soft,adding more water if necessary 

  3. Mutton takes long to cook and has to be cooked on a medium to low heat!!

  4. Add the dry spices and cook a little and than add your tomatoes and cook a little add potatoes and cook until the potatoes are soft.

  5. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon gharam masala 

  6. Garnish with chopped freshly dhania.

  7. Serve with rice,roti,naan or puri

This is a basic mutton curry,you can add any vegetables into this recipe, sliced carrots,peas,sliced green beans etc.

Tip: Steam potatoes in the microwave to cut down your cooking time.

  • If you adding any other veggies steam them in the microwave as well and add into your pot with your potatoes.

  • Wash your mutton and drain well mix the ginger garlic masala into your meat and leave overnight in the fridge.

  • The meat will become tender quicker when cooking,and helps cut down on cooking time.
